How Organic are your candles?
We are well known for producing natural wax candles. In particular, we produce natural wax candles
using organic essential oils for our own label customers. Our wicks are only ever made from natural
cotton and paper - so are we organic?
It's a mystery - DEFRA who regulate organic certifying bodies do not have a classification for Candles,
mainly because you can't eat them!
Also it is important to understand that in effect, it is not the candle that is certified organic but the raw
ingredients that combine to make the candle. As a rule of thumb, at least 90% - 95% of the ingredients
must come from approved organic suppliers.
One of the major issues is finding a natural wax producer that has a certificate in organic farming. Most
candle wax is imported and may have come from a farm that is certified in their own country. Although it
is certified organic, it will not carry a UK certification.
Organic candles are not as yet recognised by the soil association or other organic body. It is possible
to use organic essential oils which come from an accredited supplier and we can "know" that our
candles are organic.
However, there is no legislation in place that says that we can or cannot label our products "organic",
unless we intend to eat them or put them on our skin. There may be an issue with Trading Standards
under the misrepresentation of goods act if any candles are proven not to be organic.
The one true test to tell whether your candles are organically certified in the UK is to check for the
certification code on the product. Manufacturers hand over a large amount of money each year to
become members of organic associations and once they have passed the stringent application test,
you can be sure they would want to display the badge of honour!

What to do if you can't see one? - Do you like the fragrance? Do you trust the company? If you can
answer yes to both these questions, then buy it.

* is NOT subject to animal testing.
We use all or some of the following fragrances:-
* Pure Essential Oils
* Organically Certified Essential Oils
* EU and IFRA regulated synthetic oils produced in the UK
Wicks
Our wicks are all cotton and paper wicks. We never use zinc or other metal cores. We also use the
right size wick for each of our containers. This ensures a long, smoke free burn where all the wax
is used - NO annoying wells in the middle of the container with unused wax clinging to the sides.
